A secret beachside escape in coastal Cornwall
Cornwall is England’s coastal paradise. On a sunny day, the turquoise waters look as if they are flowing straight from the Indian Ocean, gently lapping against wide golden sands or silver shingles. But this is a bolthole that is distinctly British, a storybook landscape peppered by caves and coves that tell the tale of smugglers, artists and aristocracy, drawn to the isolated peninsula by its beautiful rugged coastline and authentic, wild seaside charm.
As local travel becomes more popular – and necessary – Blend Group is here to help customers find the finest experiences on their own doorstep. Moving away from the hotspots of St Ives, Falmouth and Penzance, we have explored some smaller, more private destinations, that offer high-end hospitality combined with authentic Cornish coastal charm.
Downderry is a small seaside village in the Southeast of the region. A pretty, three-bedroom property, situated on the water’s edge, with an open-plan layout, and a sun terrace with outdoor Jacuzzi –perfect for enjoying the sweeping sea views. The village is bordered by a long, calm shingle beach, and is within easy distance of the sandy coves of Whitsand Bay and Tregantle Beach.
A second property more suited for a larger group, sleeps up to 14 guests in six bedrooms. This beautifully finished and well-equipped private home in Perranuthnoe has views over the famous monument of St Michael’s Mount and onto the seas beyond. An expansive garden is the perfect place to enjoy the long lingering rays of the summer sun, with a Sonos system extending from the large living areas out into the exterior spaces.
While Cornwall’s beaches are often seen as the region’s calling card, the area also boasts impressive rugged cliff faces and striking rock formations. Blend Group’s recommended rustic, couple’s hideaway is located in Portloe, a village John Betjamin described as “one of the least spoiled and most impressive of Cornish fishing villages.” Situated on a harbour, nestled amid the tall cliffs of the Roseland Peninsula, the village is the perfect secret getaway, whatever the weather. In summer, the open garden and sunny patio, with outdoor Jacuzzi, offer evening relaxation after a day exploring the area, while in winter the woodburner offers cosy comfort after a windswept walk.
Wherever you choose to stay, Blend Group can also organise activities, tours and fine dining, to ensure that you experience the perfect Cornish getaway for your group.
