The Lions Tour 2025 – What You Need to Know
Next summer the British and Irish Lions go down under as the world’s greatest touring team and its accompanying sea of red return to Australia for the first time since 2013.
Undoubtedly one of the greatest sporting shows on the planet, a Lions tour creates unparalleled levels of commitment and passion, from players and fans alike, as the nations of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland unite to take on the might of one of the southern hemisphere’s big 3.
Recent History
Occurring every four years, the Lions have only been victorious in one of the last six tours, the sole win coming in Australia in 2013.
2017’s showdown in New Zealand ended as a draw after a remarkable 15-15 final test meant the teams couldn’t be separated, but aside from those two outings, all other tours dating back to 2001 have ended in defeat.
This Time Round
In 2025 the Lions will play Test matches in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney against a Wallabies side that failed to make it to the knockout stage of last Autumn’s Rugby World Cup, for the first time in the history of the competition.
They’ll host the next one in 2027 and will regard next summer’s Lions tour as the perfect opportunity to lay down a marker and show they can still compete with the world’s best.
Prior to travelling, the Lions are scheduled to play Argentina in a warm-up match in Dublin’s Aviva Stadium, which is followed by the usual run-up of practice games before the test matches begin, upon touching down in Australia. As part of this highly anticipated tour, the series will feature a historic fixture against a New Zealand and Australia Invitational XV.
