An underwater wonderland in French Polynesia

Over 70% of the earth’s surface is covered by water, a hidden world of strange and stunning sights: a kaleidoscope of coral, the deep impenetrable shades of the boundless blue, and the incredible flora and fauna that draw divers to reefs around the world.

French Polynesia offers some of the finest diving in the world, from novices taking their first plunge, to experienced divers pursuing deeper waters and elusive sights. All of the 67 inhabited islands dotted across the crystal clear ocean waters have their charms, and Blend Group have made an exclusive selection of some of the finest dive spots for those making the trip to this underwater wonderland.

    Bora Bora, French Polynesia

Mo’orea, close to Tahiti, is often overlooked in favour of its more famous sister, but those in the know come for the stunning scenery, above and below the water. Striking volcanic cliffs create a dramatic backdrop to the beautiful blues, green spires stretching above the ocean, sparkling waterfalls tumbling from verdant rock faces into the bright lagoon below. The island’s waters are known for their colourful corals and abundant wildlife: the Rose Garden is a particular draw. Reef sharks and rays populate the area, and there is an impressive 40-metre drop at the edge of the reef.

Less experienced divers can enjoy the splendor of Mo’orea from Tiki point. A shallow dive of roughly 20-metres, the waters are teeming with life including the 10-foot Black Tip shark, viewed from a distance through the crystal-clear turquoise waters.

A little further afield, a 20 minute flight from the Capital of Pape’ete, is the private Tetiaroa Atoll. The exclusive atoll was once the retreat of Polynesian royalty, and is composed of dozens of beautiful small islands, each one evoking a castaway dream. White-tip Sharks, Lionfish, and huge Humphead Wrasse fish populate the waters of the lagoon, which is completely enclosed by the atoll, making it a dive site for all levels of experience. Eagle Rays glide past coral gardens, turtles weave through canyons and caves, and tropical fish curiously approach through the rocks. A true visual feast, and the perfect place to perfect your underwater photography with one of our affiliate partners.
