    A Highland Fling

Exploring the wild beauty of northern Scotland

A rugged landscape of moors and mountains characterises northern Scotland. The Highlands have been shaped by forces of nature for thousands of years, a unique environment of deep glens, glittering lochs and expansive golden coastline.

This is a world of legend and tradition, a chance to leave the hustle and bustle of the modern world behind. Days are spent fly fishing in streams, dolphin watching on the sea, and enjoying the warm caress of an after dinner whiskey as the fire gently glows.

Whatever your interests in this accessible wilderness, Blend Group can organise a trip that takes in the best of the region. Stay in a remote Scottish farmhouse, enclosed by enchanted woodlands, rivers home to beautiful salmon and rainbow trout. The fresh catch is cooked for dinner by the private in-house chef, as guests relax after an afternoon of hiking or horseback riding.

If field sports are a passion, talk to us about taking on the challenge of the ‘Macnab’, and join an expert guide to chase the thrill of catching a salmon on the fly, shooting a brace of grouse and taking a stag, all between dawn and dusk of the same day.

The landscape is characterised by water: Lochs, streams and rivers defining the shape of the Highlands. Children can search out elusive creatures, or head off on an adventure river tubing, kayaking, white water rafting and paddle boarding, while adults indulge in a tasting session of local whiskies. Try Balvenie DoubleWood 12 Year Old, the original double-matured whiskey, the peaty Langavulin 16 year old, or the smoky Ledaig 1996 19 Years Old from the Isle of Mull. And the perfect complement to a ‘wee dram’? Delicious dishes crafted from fresh local produce: incredible fresh water fish and seafood, rich game and wild Highland herbs and foraged foods.

In summer, daylight lingers long into the night, and the weather is warm, but winter also holds a special appeal for visitors to the Highlands. Ice slowly brings the Lochs to a standstill, and the thick forest becomes a wonderland of delicately frosted branches, the white snow disturbed only by the footprints of red deer, and the wildlife that walks in their wake. In Autumn, these magnificent creatures come to head, as the rut runs from September to October, while spring sees the new fawns gingerly taking their first steps as a new season begins.

From family fun to sporting weekend, photography challenges or fine dining, the Scottish Highlands are a special place where stunning nature, friendly locals and delicious produce come together to create a memorable trip, with the rest of the United Kingdom a stone’s throw away. To witness the best of northern Scotland, create your experience with one of our team today.
