The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2023
A fountain of knowledge when it comes to all things fine dining, the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list has been educating and inspiring since 2002. Celebrating the richness and diversity of the world’s exclusive culinary offerings, the list presents the ultimate destinations for unique and exquisite dining experiences, every year.
Democratically drawing from a panel of over 1,000 experts, the list shines a bright spotlight on the world’s most talented chefs and their establishments. It is now an independently run institution, having split from the publication that initially produced it, which hosts an annual awards ceremony, bringing together a world-class community of chefs from across the globe.
The result is a world-renowned, widely respected and highly trusted yearly collection of fine cuisine experiences that enhances reputations, makes careers and immortalises culinary professionals. During last month this year’s list was revealed in Valencia, so we thought we’d highlight some of our favourite spots to send our valued clientele.
Central – Lima, Peru
Deservedly topping the list this year is Central, Peruvian chef Virgilio Martinez Veliz’s flagship restaurant. Rapidly becoming one of the foremost cities in the world for fine dining, Lima is home to Central, which seeks to connect individuals by linking humans, nature and culture, and experimenting with indigenous Peruvian ingredients.
Asador Extebarri – Bizkaia, Spain
Impressively, the next three restaurants on the list are located in Spain. The cultural powerhouses of Madrid and Barcelona are home to the occupants of spots two and three, however, it’s this year’s fourth-best restaurant that we at Blend Group are so wildly fond of. Set among the lush foothills of the Spanish Basque Country within a rustic stone building, Asador Extebarri is inevitably all about fire and the grill. Enjoying mountainous vistas and the natural flavours of local produce, guests are treated to a true Basque experience.
Pujol – Mexico City, Mexico
The accolade of the highest-ranking North American restaurant this year belongs to Mexico City’s Pujol, an un-pretentious yet high-quality and innovative homage to Mexico, located in the capital’s Polanco neighbourhood. Head Chef Enrique Olvera opened his first restaurant at the tender age of 24 and has since opened 13 more. Pujol is committed to ensuring sustainability by supporting small farms and efficiently using the resources it relies on, doing all it can to live up to its motto “never waste”.
