Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour
Self-styled as a journey through all of her musical eras, Taylor Swift’s sixth concert tour, and second all-stadium run, has been regarded as a homage to her body of work and illustrious career’s musical development. Having not been on the road since 2018, Swift’s announcement of Eras came in 2022 after the release of her tenth studio album, Midnights, and shook the music world with excitement.
The tour kicked off in March of this year in Glendale, Arizona, a decision that led to the creation of a unique piece of history, and indication of the level of hype caused by the tour, when the city’s mayor officially renamed Glensdale “Swift City” for the two days that Taylor was in town.
According to reviews, the show is living up to its huge expectations. Being Swift’s most expansive tour to date, consisting of 146 shows across five continents, she’d be forgiven for taking it easy on stage. However, her performance consists of a gruelling three-hour-plus set each and every night, involving frequent costume changes, large-scale set swaps, daring stunts and an elaborately flamboyant production quality. Special guest openers include Phoebe Bridgers, Haim, Gayle and Gracie Abrams.
Thus far the tour has received unanimous critical acclaim, being described as a multifaceted cultural phenomenon, with setlists distinctly divided into 10 acts which conceptually portray each of her albums. Her vocal and artistic performance has also been hailed as immaculate.
The Covid-19 global pandemic led to the cancellation of Swift’s initially-scheduled sixth tour, originally entitled Lover Fest, leaving fans across the globe heartbroken. However, absence makes the heart grow fonder and all things considered, Eras is proving to be well and truly worth the wait.
