Fancy a Winter Swedish Spa Retreat?
As the world moves into the ever-familiar festive period, the prospect of an idyllic winter escape becomes more and more tempting. Luckily, in our industry, we’re spoiled for choice. There are luxury chalet breaks to the Alps, wellness and spa hotels in the Dolomites and remote luxury lodges in Alaska, for example. However, we’ve recently discovered something a little different – a winter floating oasis in the heart of Swedish Lapland that we know our valued client base will absolutely adore.
We’re talking about Arctic Bath, a Lapland spa retreat like no other, nestled in Sweden’s Arctic Circle on the shores of the River Lule in a tiny, rural village. The unique Swedish luxury spa hotel sits both on top of and next to the serene waters, with its main building and Water Cabins actually floating on the water’s surface. During the coldest winter months, the river is often frozen around the hotel’s infrastructure in dramatic fashion, incorporating the surrounding nature to the max.
It’s a small hotel, leading to a truly exclusive feel. Six Water Cabins, each suitable for two guests, are situated on the river and connected to land by floating wooden gangways. Meanwhile, the hotel’s Land Cabins are built high on pillars, nestled among the birch trees. The largest of these is suitable for five guests and is perfect for a longer getaway.
Aside from the incredible natural environment that guests are plunged into, the real draw of this luxury Arctic hotel is its world-class spa and wellness facilities. You’ll be able to access the facilities every day, between the hours of 9 am and 10 pm, and upon arrival will be given a spa kit that includes a bathrobe, bathing suit or shorts and some exclusive spa products. As well as the usual indulgent treatments and massages, you’ll be able to enjoy facilities including saunas, a steam room, two outdoor jacuzzis and the iconic, refreshing cold river bath.
After a day of fresh Arctic relaxation, you can unwind in front of the cosy fire with a drink of your choice in the bar and lounge area, before dining in the on-site, gourmet restaurant. Priding itself on its homemade, local and sustainable dishes, Arctic Bath’s restaurant produces the finest traditional northern cuisine with a modern twist. Here you’ll be able to enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner.
During your stay, if you do feel like dragging yourself away from the opulent relaxation and getting a little active, there’s a whole host of activities to experience. Why not search for moose, reindeer and foxes on an Arctic safari, or go ice fishing on a private lake with a guide. You’ll also be able to try your hand at snowshoeing, expedition-style ice skiing, snowmobiling and husky sledding, and of course, no visit to the Arctic is complete without gazing at the Northern Lights or enjoying a three-course torch-lit dinner in a heated tipi tent.
