Wine and dine in South Africa

A discovery tour of South Africa’s finest wines

South Africa is a land of adventure, a world that defies adjectives with its scale and variety. From rugby to rhinos, incredible food to unique wildlife, great whites to great wines, this is a country that has to be experienced to really be believed.

Cape Town is famous for its history, landscape and location on the Atlantic coast, but head a little further inland, and the city architecture and surf scene slowly give way to rolling hills covered in vines as you make your way into some of South Africa’s most fruitful wine country. Over 200 grape and wine producers lie within the boundaries of Stellenbosch, and the well-documented wine routes take you through the best of them.

To fully experience the world of South African wine, oenophiles should stay on one of the fine estates that pepper the landscape. Here, guests are immersed in wine-making life, with personal tours and tastings to offer a comprehensive understanding of the varieties. One such estate is Delaire Graff. Located in the heart of the Stellenbosch valley, the Estate is a world-leading destination for wine, art and fine dining. An overnight stay gives guests the chance to fully take advantage of all that the estate has to offer, such as the state-of-the-art-spa and gym, the private cinema, and Inochine, the Estate’s exceptional eatery. Green gastronomy lies at the heart of Delaire Graff, which offers fine South African dining crafted from produce grown on the Estate, or Asian-inspired fusion to add an exotic twist to your stay.

Of course, the main reason to visit is the Estate’s fine wine collection. The location close to the Atlantic coast gives the grapes an intense flavor that can’t be found anywhere else. Guests are invited to taste the various vintages produced by the Estate, or join a tour of the working vineyard to see the process through from grape to glass.

Tastings are held either in the Wine Lounge, or in the privacy of your lodge. Both offer large terraces overlooking the beautiful scenery of Stellenbosch, the sun lingering over the vines as it slowly sinks below those wide South African skies.
