Ibiza: A Two-Sided Coin
Upon hearing the name Ibiza, you’d be forgiven if your mind instinctively conjured scenes of hectic strips and crowded superclubs. It can’t be questioned that the island’s reputation as a party destination for visitors from all over the globe precedes itself.
It’s also a hub for the mega-wealthy, with A-list actors, sports stars, musicians, DJs and models frequently anchoring their yachts up in a secluded cove or staying in one of the many lavish inland properties. Visitors over the years have included Leonardo DiCaprio, Christina Aguilera, Beyonce, Leo Messi, Johnny Depp, Katy Perry and the list goes on.
However, as one of the most aesthetically stunning Balearic spots, the island also has a lesser-known, more tranquil and cultural side to it. Ibiza’s historic Old Town is picturesque, for instance, while fine white-sand beaches are dotted all over. Here’s our guide to the White Island.
Where to Stay
There are high-end, luxury hotels and accommodations spread throughout Ibiza. One of our personal favourites here at Blend Group is the Ibiza Corso Hotel & Spa. Situated in Marina Botafoch, one of the world’s most elite marinas, the family-run hotel embodies its passion for luxury service, art and comfort.
Set amongst the luxury yachts, boutique restaurants and fashionable shops of the harbour, guests are a stone’s throw away from Old Town. Within the hotel, guests are kept entertained day and evening, with restaurants, a relaxed bar, lobby area, terrace, spa and wellness facilities, as well as a sea-view gym available.
Among our trusted 5-star hotel partners on the island is the Hotel Aguas de Ibiza Grand Luxe in the tranquil cultural and gastronomic centre that is Santa Eularia. Boasting spectacular sea views and membership of the `Small Luxury Hotels of the World` collective, Aguas is chic and relaxed, consisting of four swimming pools, the Revival Spa and an ocean-view rooftop bar space.
Where to Go
Off the bottom of the island sits Formentera, the smallest of all the Balearic islands. Accessible by boat, Formentera offers visitors privacy and exclusivity and is perfect for either a day trip or a short stay. With white sands, turquoise waters and no crowds, the quaint island provides the perfect getaway from its busier neighbour. Calo d’Es Morts and Cala Saona are stunning beach coves, ideal for a day’s relaxation, while visitors can also while away the hours drifting through the island’s Mediterranean-style villages and markets.
Also on Formentera is Beso Beach Restaurant, the absolute epitome of beach restaurant vibes. Set slightly inland, the outdoor restaurant is well-sheltered and soundtracked by a laid-back electronic playlist that increases in pace and intensity as the afternoon wears on. The palm-lined roof, natural materials and weathered feel produce a rustic charm to the place, with stunning sunset views and Mediterranean/Basque cuisine delighting restaurant-goers.
Among the other must-visit exclusive beach bars and restaurants is the glamorous Blue Marlin, frequented by VIPs and situated on the pebbly shores of the south coast, giving access to the undisputed hotspot of Ibiza’s beach club scene, Cala Jondal.
Further north is Lio Ibiza, an engaging sensual modern interpretation of a cabaret show in which not only the singers, dancers, acrobats and international artists delight clientele, but the wait staff also get in on the action. As such, a revolutionary form of interaction is produced, ensuring a captivating atmosphere where eventually everyone gets up to dance.
