A Hybrid of World-Class Entertainment
A unique spectacle that is watched by hundreds of millions all over the globe, the Super Bowl is one of the most anticipated occasions in the world of sport. The huge importance of the game aside, the Super Bowl is a show that aims to entertain.
The match is the crowning game of the NFL season, acting as the final stage of the campaign and determining the overall winner of the championship. Held every year since 1966, two teams compete for the coveted Vince Lombardi trophy and the ultimate glory that comes with it.
The sport itself represents just a fraction of what’s on offer, however, as the event is famed for its all-round entertainment, with some of the world’s biggest music stars having performed the half-time show. Acts such as Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney, U2 and Bruce Springsteen have all graced the stage over the years to entertain the fanatic NFL fans in attendance and the monumental numbers who tune in from homes and bars throughout the world.
As a result of these gigantic viewing figures, television advertising space is at an absolute premium during the event’s airing, with recent reports stating that a thirty-second advert is priced at around 5.5 million USD. That figure represents a staggering amount of income, especially considering the spectacle often takes over four hours.
Last time round, it was Tampa Bay Buccaneers who were victorious defeating the Kansas City Chiefs in Tampa, Florida on the first-ever occasion that a team has played a Super Bowl in their own stadium. However, due to Covid-19 restrictions, an attendance of 25,000 spectators meant that it was the least-attended Super Bowl of all time.
With that in mind, the next instalment on 13 February 2022, is likely to be even more intense and atmospheric an occasion, as the two competing teams meet for the 56th Super Bowl in Inglewood, California. The city is in the Los Angeles metropolitan area, with easy access to LA and San Diego.
Although the two teams are yet to be decided, the half-time show is scheduled to be headlined by Dr. Dre, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar and Mary J.Blige. This mouth-watering line-up is sure to provide some of the best music entertainment ever seen at a sporting event.
The game is set to be hosted at the SoFi stadium, a brand-new stadium and entertainment complex that was opened in September 2020. Now home to both the LA Rams and LA Chargers, it will also host both the opening and closing ceremonies at the 2028 Summer Olympics. The stadium holds 70,000 seated spectators plus an additional capacity for 25,000 standing fans. Construction costs for the entire project are thought to be $5-6 billion!
Whichever teams grace the turf in February, what is promised is an absolute multi-faceted entertainment factor of the highest calibre.
